Estate Administration (Pusaka)
Estate administration (pusaka) is the legal process of collecting a deceased person's assets and distributing them to the rightful heirs in Malaysia. VL Legacy Solutions handles this process for families in Perak and across Malaysia, whether or not there is a will.
Who this is for
- Families who have lost a loved one and need to release bank accounts, land, property, shares or vehicles
- Executors named in a will who need a Grant of Probate
- Heirs of someone who died without a will who need Letters of Administration or a small estate order
- Families whose estate has been left unsettled for years, for example land still in a grandparent's name
What you'll need
- Death certificate (and burial permit, if available)
- Identity cards of the deceased and all heirs
- Birth and marriage certificates showing family relationships
- The original will, if there is one
- Asset documents: land titles (geran), bank statements, EPF, shares, insurance and vehicle grants
- Details of any debts or loans
This is a general list. VL Legacy Solutions will confirm exactly what your case needs.
How we help
First conversation
VL Legacy Solutions listens to your family's situation and explains which route applies: Grant of Probate, Letters of Administration, a small estate application through JKPTG, or AmanahRaya.
Documents and asset list
You receive a checklist; we collect the documents and prepare a list of the deceased's assets and debts.
Application
We prepare the documents and coordinate the application with the right authority, working with a lawyer where the High Court route requires one, and follow it up until the grant or distribution order is issued.
Transfer and distribution
We help transfer land, property, accounts and vehicles to the heirs according to the will, the Distribution Act 1958 or Faraid.
Close the file
Your family receives a summary and a clear record of everything that was done.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a lawyer for pusaka?
Not always. Small estate applications through JKPTG and some AmanahRaya applications can be made without a lawyer. High Court applications for a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration usually involve a lawyer, and VL Legacy Solutions coordinates with one so your family has a single point of contact.
Which estate administration route applies to our family?
It depends on whether there is a will, the type of assets and their total value. Estates with immovable property up to RM5 million usually go to JKPTG as a small estate, estates with only movable assets up to a set limit can go through AmanahRaya, and others go to the High Court. VL Legacy Solutions confirms the right route at the first conversation.
What if an estate was never settled many years ago?
Old, unsettled estates are common, especially where land is still in a grandparent's name. VL Legacy Solutions traces the heirs, helps obtain missing documents and makes the application, including cases where some heirs have also passed away.
