A will (wasiat) is a legal document that states who receives your property after you pass away, who manages your estate and who looks after your young children. VL Legacy Solutions in Kampar, Perak prepares basic and custom wills and arranges proper signing, witnessing and safekeeping.

Frequently asked questions

Who can be a witness to my will?

Two adult witnesses must watch you sign and then sign in front of you. A beneficiary, or the spouse of a beneficiary, should not be a witness, otherwise their gift may be void under the Wills Act 1959. VL Legacy Solutions arranges independent witnesses for you.

What is the difference between a basic will and a custom will?

A basic will suits straightforward situations, such as leaving everything to a spouse and children. A custom will covers more complex wishes, such as specific gifts, staged distributions for children, business assets or blended families. VL Legacy Solutions recommends the right type after understanding your situation.

Can Muslims make a wasiat?

Yes, but under Islamic law a wasiat generally covers up to one third of the estate and is not usually made in favour of Faraid heirs without the other heirs' consent. Muslim estate planning often also uses hibah. VL Legacy Solutions explains the options and refers you to the appropriate body where needed.

How often should I update my will?

Review your will after any major life event, such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, the death of a beneficiary or buying significant property. For non-Muslims in Malaysia, marriage generally revokes an earlier will.
